“We visited your cellar door last Saturday 7/01/12 – our first stop on our Marlborough wine tour. As it turned out, you provided our best wine experience – we bought your excellent Pinot Gris and Chardonnay I rated both at 8/10. That unique Gewurzt – I\’d like to try again after 1 yr! Thanks also for rounding out the experience by taking so much time discussing your wines, vineyard and soils – invaluable information and a nice personal touch. Lucky we were first in before the tour buses… We are very experienced wine drinkers and amateur chefs, travelling around the world meeting with winemakers, owners, chefs and cellardoors. Much to the surprise of Barbara Lawson and Marcus Wright at last Saturdays Air NZ Wine Awards, we received the TROPHY for our Lawson’s Dry Hills The Pioneer Gewurztraminer 2010!
Surprise because it was in the Exhibition Class, so had no request for wines prior (which can be a telltale sign or a red herring..). A great accolade for this limited luscious wine.
Also happy with our GOLD for the 2011 Sauvignon Blanc – looking and drinking fantastically.

Starting the final preps now and very much looking forward to our private 20th vintage Dinner this coming Friday… Maree Connolly (from Hotel D’urville) has put together an amazing 5 courses for our special night, including an entree of Smoked Creek Eel.. Guests include Bob Campbell MW and Yvonne Lorkin, along with previous winemakers and restauranteurs of LDH – Mike+Claire Allan (Huia), Mike and Paula Just (CLayridge), Heidi and Chris Gibbs (Gibbs Restaurant), Steve Coyne (Harbour Light Bistro Nelson). And not forgetting all the other fantastic crew from Winemakers, cellar door, office and winery staff still making Lawson’s Dry Hills tick over! A total 36 special people in all! Sadly, to all who met our lovely ‘mascot, cellar door greeter, heater hogger, grape eating golden lab Tomi’, she was put to sleep on the weekend due to the unfortunate final stages of cancer.. She is sadly missed and very noticeable in her absence…..I have attached a couple of recent vintage shots…

Had a week in the North Island recently – time in trade with a no. of lunches/degustation dinners and wine tastings.. Thought I’d pass on a fantastic restaurant in Hamilton we held a degustation lunch at: Victoria St Bistro (on Victoria St!) – amazing food and service – Cheers Jules, Andrew and crew!

Unbelievable but we have just received our 5th trophy for our 2008 Riesling! How exciting.. It just received the Trophy at the International Cool Climate Wine Awards in Victoria for the Champion Estate Made and bottled White Wine. Cheers
